ABOUT IAIR
Our History
The International Association of Insurance Receivers was incorporated under the laws of the State of Delaware as the International Society of Insurance Receivers.
The Association was founded in 1991 in order to provide individuals who were involved with insurance receiverships an organization through which they could receive education, exchange information, and enhance the standards followed by those who work in this professional area.
Our Mission
To promote the highest stands in the administration of insurance receiverships and the prompt and efficient closing of receiverships;
To promote a uniform code of professional standards for insurance receivers;
To promote a uniform code of ethical standards for insurance receivers;
To develop educational and training programs to enhance the qualifications of persons working in the field of insurance receiverships and provide a forum for discussion of subjects of common interest to them;
To inform the public of the value of highly-traned and professional insurance receiver who are granted permission to use the Society's designations, thereby to cause insurance receivers to aspire to the highest standards;
To provide benefits usually available to organizations whose members have common interests; and
To perform such other acts and carry on such other lawful activities as may be incidental to, or as may be neccesary or convenient to effectuate, the foregoing purposes and objectives.
Continuing Education
IAIR offers training and current insolvency information to members and industry professionals. IAIR offers Roundtable programs in conjunction with NAIC meetings and provides opportunities for an exchange of ideas and information among insurance insolvency professionals.
In addition, IAIR promotes special education programs co-sponsored with NOLHGA or NCIGF and hosts a two-day annual Insolvency Workshop. In recent years, topics included workers’ compensation and unauthorized insurance companies.
IAIR also publishes a quarterly newsletter, The Insurance Receiver, which provides members with current information on technical insolvency issues.
IAIR's International Committee addresses issues outside of the US and holds regular training meetings in London each year. Topics addressed include issues specific to the UK, other national developments and their effects on the internmational community.
IAIR's CIR and AIR Designation Program
To ensure that high standards are met in the appointments of Liquidators, Special Deputy Receivers or the equivalent, IAIR offers two designations to qualified members: Certified Insurance Receiver (CIR) and Accredited Insurance Receiver (AIR).
IAIR's CIR designation is intended for those members who have experience and expertise in the overall control of the day-to-day operations of a multi-state insolvency.
IAIR's AIR designation is for those members who work in the receivership office or as a consultant on a limited aspect of an insurance insolvency. To date, 50 members have obtained these designations, which include a Continuing Education requirement of 40 hours every 2 years.
Current Issues
As IAIR identifies emerging issues, the Board establishes a working group to study the environment and present a white paper, when approprite, which is promulgated to interested parties. The most recent working group addressed the issues arising in HMO Insolvencies.
Membership
Membership in IAIR is open to all individuals who have a professional or intellectual interest in insurance insolvency issues. To apply for membership, simploy download an application and submit it along with three sponsors who are current IAIR members in good standing, your personal resume and the appropriate fee (US Dollars): For-profit Entities: $275; Not-For-Profit Entities: $125. Applications are reviewed for approval in cojunction with IAIR Board meetings which are held in conjuncton with the NAIC scheduled meeting. Applications can also be mailed to IAIR at:
